Brake discs, as the name suggests, are disc-like components of the brake system that's attached to the studs of every wheel. They slow down after being clamped by the calipers through braker fluids flowing to and from the brake pedals.

Also called brake rotors, they're meant to absorb a significant amount of friction to reliably slow or stop your car. Of course, this would then cause heat, wear, and tear generally within 40,000 miles. By then, you will need to replace your brake discs alongside the other surface that goes through friction, the brake pads.

The typical signs of a worn-out brake discs are high-pitched grinding on the wheels, pulsating and shaking wheels, a significant amount of rust, and of course, a blinking brake sign on your dashboard.

If you neglect to replace your brake discs and pads within the recommended mileage, then you can say goodbye to your brake calipers, too. By then, you'll notice leakage below where your brake pedals would be, and your braking distance will start to increase.
